The Secret Life Of Pets: Hilarious For Kids And Pet Owners Alike

Last week I saw The Secret Life of Pets in theaters.  My expectations were high as I had seen the trailer for the movie many months ago and got more excited every time I saw it.  I was surprised to say that it surpassed my expectations!

The story revolves around Max, a New York City dog so loyal to his owner that he thinks no one can hurt the bond they share. Then his owner adopts Duke, a big, jolly, annoying dog who steals his spotlight.  As tensions run high between the dogs, they get loose in New York City and chaos runs amok as their other pet friends try to find them and they run into other animals living on the streets. My favorite character was a sassy neighbor cat friend of Max’s named Chloe who does not care about any one and just goes by what she wants to do.  I don’t want to give too much away, because part of the humor in it all is the surprising twists and turns the movie brings.  If this already doesn’t sound funny, the actors and actresses voicing these characters include Kevin Hart, Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, and Ellie Kemper.

The storyline is all from the perspective of pets.  Kids will think it’s funny, because, well, talking animals.  Adults will think it’s funny because everyone wonders what they’re pets are actually thinking and even though the story is so obviously absurd, it’s so dang funny.  Many of the script’s jokes included one liners that will stick in your head.

Pixar is killing it with these fun movies lately (I loved Finding Dory, go see that too!).  I always look forward to Pixar films because I like the short films that play before the actual movie.  The one before The Secret Life of Pets was about the Despicable Me minions, so if you didn’t already have enough incentive to see this film, you do now.  I didn’t even see this movie with anyone that was a child.  My boyfriend and I are in our early twenties and we went on date night.  Nothing like an animated movie to keep you feeling like a kid!

Have you seen any kids movies lately?  What did you think?

Hope your summer is going great lovelies!  It’s going by way too fast for me!
