Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) is the deputy director of Pawnee, Indiana’s parks and recreation department. She cares deeply about her job, her co-worker friends, and Pawnee. She’s an unstoppable force to be reckoned with and although she’s a perfectionist, she’s far from perfect. Her co-workers include surly April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza), pop culture aficionado/daydreamer Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari), department director/government hater Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), and other such characters. Episodes portray daily life in and out of the fictional office. Leslie decides that she wants to turn a giant garbage-dump looking pit into a park. Tom and office-mate Donna participate in “Treat Yo Self” days in which they do whatever they please no matter the cost. Ron eats breakfast food. Although it’s about their workplace, the show thrives on situational humor, sarcasm, and dry humor. The first time I watched an episode I was reminded of The Office, but the exact humor wasn’t quite the same.
Poehler never skips a beat delivering one liners, Plaza nails her character on the head, and a well delivered giggle from Offerman is enough to make one double over in laughter. Even past all of the humor, the show is heartwarming too. Overall, it isn’t hard to see how this show got nominated so many times for an Emmy.
“Bye Bye Lil Sebastian” will become your new favorite song and you will start celebrating Treat Yo Self day and Galentine’s Day if you become hooked on this show. You have been warned.
What shows have you guys binged watched and cried at the final episode? I’d be lying if I said this was the only one for me.
